Room to Move, Space to Rest
Built for Missouri weather
Before choosing a kennel or animal shelter, it helps to think through how the space will be used every day.
How many animals will use it? Do they need more indoor shelter or more outdoor run space? Will you need room for feeding bowls, bedding, and cleaning access? Where will the building sit on your property, and will it be easy to reach in bad weather?
Midwest Mini Barns can help you talk through these details so you end up with a building that works in real life, not just in a picture.

Before You Choose a Dog Kennel
Questions Before You Choose a Dog Kennel?
Most people know they need a better setup. They just are not sure what size, where to put it, or what kind of base makes the most sense. These answers can help you think through the details before you order.
What is the best outdoor shelter for dogs?
The best outdoor shelter gives dogs a secure place to be outside while also protecting them from sun, rain, wind, and cold weather. A covered kennel with an enclosed shelter area can be a good option because it provides both outdoor space and a protected place to rest.
Are outdoor dog kennels good for Missouri weather?
Yes, a well-built outdoor dog kennel can be a great option in Missouri as long as your dog has proper shelter, shade, airflow, and protection from rain and wind. Covered kennel designs give dogs a place to get out of harsh sun, sudden storms, and changing temperatures.
Can I use a dog kennel for multiple dogs?
Yes. Many dog owners use outdoor kennels for multiple dogs, but the layout matters. You may need more space, separate sections, or a design that makes feeding and daily care easier. If you have more than one dog, we can help you think through a setup that feels safe and manageable.
Do dog kennels need to be placed on concrete?
Not always. Some customers place kennels on gravel, concrete, or another level pad depending on how they plan to use the space. The biggest thing is choosing a location with good drainage so the kennel area does not stay muddy or wet after rain.
Is a built dog kennel better than a store-bought wire kennel?
For long-term outdoor use, a built dog kennel is usually stronger, cleaner-looking, and more practical than a lightweight wire pen. Store-bought kennels can work temporarily, but a more permanent kennel gives your dog better shelter, more usable space, and a setup that holds up better over time.
